What is Advising?

First year advising starts in CLASS Advising

You will meet with an Advisor who will help direct you in choosing courses, paths, and more

Central uses a Dual Advising model, so during the second semester of your Freshman year, you will be assigned a Faculty Advisor from within your department

Your Department Advisor will have a more specialized expertise to your area of study, and is a great mentor to connect with

Make sure to look at the course catalog ahead of time and write down the CRN of the courses you would like to take

Be ready to register as soon as it opens for you - this means making sure no holds are on your account and meeting with your advisor

Build connections with your professors! Have them be your mentors and help you get connected in your field.

Use the resources available on campus; visit the learning center, the writing center, the math tutors and more. There are plenty of free paths to success.

Take unique courses when you first start. Being a Freshmen means you have more time to decide on a specific degree!
