Welcome to Central!
Congratulations on being accepted to CCSU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences!
We know that it can be a little difficult getting started, so we put together some information that will help you start and excel your Freshman year.
What is Advising?
-
First year advising starts in CLASS Advising
-
You will meet with an Advisor who will help direct you in choosing courses, paths, and more
-
Central uses a Dual Advising model, so during the second semester of your Freshman year, you will be assigned a Faculty Advisor from within your department
-
Your Department Advisor will have a more specialized expertise to your area of study, and is a great mentor to connect with
How do I plan my classes?
-
Keep in touch with your Advisor
-
Talk to the advisors in CLASS Advising if you have any other questions
-
Follow your academic map
-
Make sure to look at the course catalog ahead of time and write down the CRN of the courses you would like to take
-
Be ready to register as soon as it opens for you - this means making sure no holds are on your account and meeting with your advisor
Where can I find my academic map?
-
An academic map provides a recommended semester-by-semester schedule of courses and highlights additional milestones required for completing a degree in four years

Make sure to visit your Advisor! They will help craft a great plan for you

Tips for Freshmen from Peer Advisors:
-
Build connections with your professors! Have them be your mentors and help you get connected in your field.
-
Use the resources available on campus; visit the learning center, the writing center, the math tutors and more. There are plenty of free paths to success.
-
Take unique courses when you first start. Being a Freshmen means you have more time to decide on a specific degree!
