Do I need a minor?

Whether or not you need a minor depends on what your major is.  Most majors in the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences require minors, with the exception of a few (Graphic Information Design, Tourism and Hospitality, and International Studies, for example).  A minor is a secondary area of focus, and is usually about 18 credits.  You can see a list of Central's minor programs on this page, and some helpful tips for choosing a minor.  You declare a minor with the same form as declaring or changing a major, which you can find here.

We here in CLASS Advising are happy that you’ve chosen to pursue a degree at Central, and would like to help make your transition here as smooth and seamless as possible – especially in regard to your transfer credits. During the summer and all throughout the academic year, we offer “Transfer Advising Days” here in CLASS Advising, where you can come and meet our staff, hear about the graduation requirements, receive individual advising and a thorough review of your incoming credits - and meet a small group of other transfer students who are likely feeling some of the same excitements and fears that you are. We strongly recommend attending one of these sessions, as it gives us the opportunity to meet you and walk you through those first steps of becoming an official CCSU student. We want you to have a great experience here, and starting off with helpful people and good information is crucial.

Besides coming to a session, please feel free to stop by CLASS Advising and ask any questions that you might have. Or, make an individual appointment with one of our advisors. You are also welcome to contact a Peer Advisor in your major, and ask him or her any questions you might have as well, or just ask them to show you around campus so you know where you're going on your first day. We in CLASS Advising love transfer students, so be sure and come introduce yourself!
